DRCongo PROJECT
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), located in the central part of Africa, is a large country with three times the land area of Japan.
In DRCongo, there were many child soldiers (boys and girls soldiers), war orphans, street children, etc. They have many problems now. We have partnered with the Children's Rehabilitation School Provide Hope in Action to support peace building in Congo with education.

Teaching "change of state" with cotton candy
"Experience" the fun of science
In DRCongo, urban areas have been devastated by stopless wars and civil wars, and there are many areas without schools. In such areas, there are many children who have a longing for "study" but have never actually taken classes. Therefore, we bring the cotton candy machine to the site and give the students a lesson to experience the fun of science with their own eyes and "taste" while explaining the state change in the science class.
Students who see cotton candy for the first time are surprised and don't think it's made of sugar. But when they tried it ... "It's sugar!!" They exclaim!!
Using their own taste in this way to make sure that the substance is the same even if the condition changes is an important step for science. Nakayoshi Gakuen's fun experimental classroom fosters children's curiosity and science.
"No one is left behind" activity even in Covid19
Class to teach viruses and fight Covid19 together
From 2020 to 2021, the new coronavirus (COVID19) struck the world, and JICA and other overseas volunteers stopped their action to world. But we never stop. Nakayoshi Gakuen continued to teach viruses locally in collaboration with partners and staff from various African countries, as it was reported daily that there was concern about an outbreak of infection, but no one could reach out.
The theme of the SDGs, "a world where no one is left behind," was literally shown in action, and it had a great impact on the local Congo, such as being reported in New Year's news.
Nakayoshi Gakuen will continue to improve the quality of education in Congo by continuing classes at various places such as child soldier rehabilitation facilities, women's support facilities, orphanages, and community hospitals. We will cooperate in human resource development while stimulating the heart.

"Manufacturing" class using Model cars
From "destruction" to "creation" in the minds of child soldiers
In DRCongo, schools are being destroyed one after another by a series of wars and civil wars, and the situation continues to literally start from the "burnt field". We are working on the rehabilitation of child soldiers in partnership with the school "Provide Hope in Action", which rehabilitates child soldiers.
Given their weapons and running around the battlefield, they were kidnapped and instructed to "destroy". It's not easy to get them to throw away their weapons and go on a learning path. We teach them and convey the joy and emotion of creating things with their own hands to those who were child soldiers.
Everyone is impressed by the Model cars that starts moving the moment when the battery is inserted and the switch is turned on. And everyone cherishes only one "car" in the world. This is "creating". We are engaged in activities to rehabilitate child soldiers into society in classes that teach the importance of manufacturing.

Meet with the Governor of North Kivu and receive a letter of appreciation
Nakayoshi Gakuen, which has been active in Congo since 2019, is based in Goma, North Kivu province, in partnership with a local NGO. This area is an area that becomes "Level 4" in the risk information specified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, and is a place designated for immediate evacuation. However we Nakayoshi Gakuen have been evaluated for their achievements in each country and continue to work locally with special permission.
In recognition of our achievements, we were allowed to visit the Governor of North Kivu and visited the Governor. We received words of appreciation and a letter of appreciation from the governor directly for our activities.
We were the first organization in Japan to start disaster relief activities in the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcanic disaster in Goma, and provided disaster support by distributing water, food, blankets, etc. and constructing temporary housing on a scale of 2 million yen. This is one tenth of the Korean government. Furthermore, based on the experience of this disaster, we established the first “Nakayoshi Disaster Prevention School” in DRCongo.
We will continue our activities in DRCongo and support the development of Congolese together with our friends.
